World Environment Day 2021

The Fifth of June is World Environment Day the day has been designated  to raise environmental awareness and insight into environmental risks, which have increased in popularity in the last century. This year (2021) the slogan of the Environmental Day is “Ecosystem Restoration”. In this context and under the auspices of the Sudapet Director General Eng. Aimen Aboujoukh, the Environment Week was organized from 5th to 10th  June 2021  , it contained many environmental awareness programs and activities including lectures, posters, exhibitions, individual competitions, departmental competitions and quizzes &gifts  during lectures.

The participants of  the week’s activities were distinguished, as Sudanese Federal Ministry of  Energy and Petroleum  has been represented by three high officials , namely , the Director General of the Environment, Safety and Health, Dr. Laila Hassan Obaidullah, Environment Department Manager, Mr. Mustafa Abdullah Abu Aqila, and Health Department Manager, Ms. Sana Mahmoud Abdullah, from operating companies Petro-Energy  participated at the level of HSE Manager , Dr. Abdel Fattah Abdullah and Environment Section Head Eng. Ibrahim Abdulrahman Fadul, from Sudapet subsidiaries the participation was at the level of Research & Development Manager  of Creative Company  Dr. Awad Bab Al-Khair  ,University of  Khartoum participated in the week by the remarkable lecture delivered by Dr. Quosay Awad Ahmed Babiker ,  from Sudan University for Science and Technology  Professor Abdel Qader Al-Fadil and his team attended and participated.

In the presence of Sudapet Director General Representative Mr. Fadul Abu Shaok, the program  started on time with opening remarks delivered by the QHSE Manager Dr. Izzet Ahmed Ali Almubarak , where he defined the ecosystem and its threats and further he managed to explain  the  role of the Oil & Gas Industry  in preserving the environment, indicating strict measures to reduce pollution, and also explaining the positive impacts resulting from biological treatments for produced  water associated with oil production operations, referring to aquaculture. Intensive forestation resulted in providing suitable habitat for wild life , as such there is a remarkable increase of wild life species as well as  settlement of many migratory birds . After that, Ms. Mawahib Musa Yassin Ali, Section Head of Quality and Environment delivered  a speech that clarified the importance of identifying negative and positive activities for each department and what precautions are currently applied and not applied in preparation for their application to preserve the environment.

The main lecture of the first day was about the importance of establishing The Oil Spill Response Center (OSR Center) and the effective role in addressing the problem in the unlikely event . The lecture was delivered by Eng. Ibrahim Abdul Rahman Fadl, Section Head of Environment from Petro-Energy.

On the second day, a lecture on climate change was presented by Dr. Ismail El-Gizouli, the known international expert on climate change programmes, who participated for many years in global conferences on climate change and was on the list of occasional chairs.

On the third day, one of the most important lectures was given by Dr. Qusay Awad Ahmed Babiker From University  of Khartoum , the lecture focused  on financing projects related to dealing with the negative effects of mitigation and adaptation to reduce climate change for the worse. The importance of the lecture lies in the fact that it opened the door to thinking about how to finance projects that reduce harmful emissions.

In addition to the participation from Oil & Gas Sector, Forests  National Corporation  participated by an exhibition on the restoration and development of petroleum areas, further more Clean Electric Company, Takreer Company and Sudan Zero Waste Organization all participated with exhibitions.

The week included many competitions and awareness programs, and the Director General , General Managers and Line Managers of Sudapet participated in awareness messages that were published during the week.

Major prizes were awarded for writing an article on Ecosystem Restoration. The three major prizes were awarded to Eng. Shaheen Ibrahim Ahmed (First Place), Eng. Haider Abbas Mohamed Ali (Second Place) and Eng. Mohamed Adel Mohamed Abdel Wahab (Third Place). In appreciation to the her high effort in the competition , an encouragement prize was awarded to Engineer/ Safaa Hafez Al-Shafee Ahmed.

At the end of the week’s activities, the honoring and gift distribution to the contestants were presented by Dr. Izzet Ahmed Ali Almubarak, Manager of Quality, Health, Safety and Environment Department, in the presence of the Acting General Manager of Finance  and Administration  , Mr. Mohamed El-Tayeb, representing the Director General of  Sudapet,  also Mr. Babiker Taj El-Din, Director of Internal Audit, and Ms. Mawaheb, Section Head Quality & Environment were participating in the last day .
